Managing the hype through uncertainty
We were honoured to donate our design services to create the certificate and runners' race numbers for the Liberia Marathon’s first virtual support run when the event was put on hold in 2020. Our goal was to contribute to this meaningful event that promotes health, wellness, and charitable giving in Liberia.
First, we carefully researched the marathon's history and significance to understand its core values and impact on the community. We learned about the Liberia Marathon Association's mission to promote physical fitness and support local charities and non-profit organisations.
With this knowledge in mind, we started the design process. For the certificate, we wanted to create a keepsake that participants would be proud to display. We used vibrant colours inspired by Liberia's cultural heritage and incorporated iconic landmarks from Monrovia to reflect the marathon's unique route through the city. The certificate design also featured images of runners crossing the finish line, capturing the spirit of accomplishment and determination.
As for the race numbers, we focused on functionality and aesthetics. We designed them to be easily visible and comfortable for runners to wear during the race. The numbers featured the Liberia Marathon logo prominently, along with the participant's assigned race category and bib number. We added motivational quotes and graphics to inspire runners throughout their journey.
Throughout the design process, we collaborated closely with the Liberia Marathon Association to ensure that the designs aligned with their vision for the event. We also paid special attention to cultural sensitivities and preferences to create a design that resonates with both local and international participants.
Once the designs were finalised, we provided the Liberia Marathon Association with the necessary files and formats for printing. We also offered guidance on materials and printing techniques to ensure the best possible quality for the certificates and race numbers.
The day of the event arrived, and it was a resounding success. Participants were thrilled with their race numbers, and the certificate ceremony after the marathon brought tears of joy and a sense of accomplishment to the finishers. The vibrant designs captured the spirit of the event and the positive impact it has on the community.
The certificate and race number designs became cherished mementos for participants, serving as a reminder of their achievement and the meaningful cause they supported through the marathon. The Liberia Marathon Association expressed their gratitude for our contribution, and we were delighted to have played a part in such a significant event that promotes health, charity, and cultural pride in Liberia.
Through our donation of design services, we were able to contribute to the success of the Liberia Marathon and its mission to create a positive impact on the well-being of Liberians while showcasing the country's vibrant culture and spirit of giving. The experience reaffirmed our belief in the power of design to support meaningful causes and bring communities together.
