Helping people find their way in nature

We were delighted to be commissioned by Nick and Louise, the inspiring founders of Hidden Valley Bushcraft, a bushcraft and wilderness skills school based in the United Kingdom, to create a simple and visually appealing map for their site. Our objective was to design a map that was easy to use, aesthetically pleasing, and helped people navigate their way around the school's premises.

The map layout was clear and intuitive, presenting the different areas of the site, including the base camp, training grounds, and specific locations for courses. We used natural elements such as trees, mountains, and rivers to visually represent the school's focus on wilderness skills and natural environments. Simple and universally recognisable icons and symbols were employed to represent key features, like camping spots, training areas, restrooms, and water sources, ensuring ease of use for visitors.

 

Key points of interest, such as the main reception and meeting points, were prominently highlighted on the map to facilitate easy navigation. The typography was carefully chosen for legibility and consistency with the school's branding. Elements of Hidden Valley Bushcraft's visual identity, such as the logo and colour palette, were incorporated into the map to reinforce brand recognition.

 

To accommodate visitors using mobile devices, we ensured the map's design was mobile-friendly, providing clear navigation options for different screen sizes. Additionally, we included complementary information about the various courses, experienced instructors, and the school's commitment to conservation on the map or accompanying leaflet.

 

Throughout the design process, we aimed to capture the adventurous spirit and passion for nature associated with Hidden Valley Bushcraft. The map's aesthetics were carefully crafted to evoke a sense of excitement and curiosity among visitors.

 

Before finalising the map, we sought feedback from the client and potential users to ensure it met their needs and preferences. Through a user-centred approach, we created an engaging and informative map that successfully assisted visitors in finding their way around the Hidden Valley Bushcraft site while aligning with the school's brand identity and values.
